Step 2. The Basics – Texas Hold’em and Investing

Texas Hold’em poker is often described as a game that can be learnt in a very short space of time but which takes a lifetime to master. The “learning” in this statement refers to getting to know all the rules of how to play an actual game. The “mastery” in the statement refers to achieving a high level of knowledge about the strategy of the game.

Investing presents a similar problem for the new entrant. It is very easy to learn how to buy and sell whatever financial instrument you are interested in but it takes a long time to learn the skills required to do so profitably.

With these concepts in mind this section describes the game play of Texas Hold’em poker, the basics of investing in the markets, and then draws some parallels.
